Parents are Saying…

  • “I loved working with Gentle Start Studios-Marly was helpful and kind at a time when my daughter was figuring out her sleep. I learned so much about sleep patterns and expectations. It was so helpful to have Marly guiding us as first time parents through the many changing phases of sleep. I highly recommend her services! I never felt judged or pressured and gained so much from consulting with Marly.”

FAQs

  • Past the newborn stage (first 12-15 weeks) it is up to you when you want to begin. I always tell clients that if what you are currently doing works for you, there is no need to change that. I believe families see the best results around sleep when they make a conscious decision to change something that is no longer working. This takes courage, commitment, and trusting that your child can learn these new skills. My door is always open, even if you feel you are not ready now but want to circle back in a few months! Every child is different and every parent knows their child best.

  • My professional background is working with families of children birth to three years old. My potty training and in-home organizational services are geared towards the child under 4 years old. My sleep services are designed for expecting parents all the way up through the school aged child.

  • Absolutely not. Cry it out, or “extinction”, is only one form of sleep training. I believe families should approach sleep training using whatever tools they feel most comfortable implementing - this will ultimately lead to a more positive relationship with sleep for everyone and quicker results. There are many ways to help a child learn how to fall asleep, and fall back asleep independently, ranging from physical and verbal assistance to a more hands off approach.

  • Newborn sleep is all over the place. The fourth trimester is treated as a period of rest with a focus on parent-child bonding and compassion for yourself as you and your babe navigate this new world. There is very little “routine” during this time and your babe needs a lot of support as they adjust to daily life.

  • Some things to discuss during pregnancy and the fourth trimester might include what to expect during those first three months in terms of sleep. How to create a soothing ladder to assist your child back to sleep or calm them down. Activities to engage your infant with during their short wake windows and what to look forward to as you approach 4 months old.
